The Democratic Party of Korea Gwangju Election Countermeasures Committee, on June 2, the final official campaign day of the 21st presidential election, held a press conference in front of the Gate of Democracy at the National May 18 Democratic Cemetery, appealing to citizens to participate in the vote by stating, "Only by voting can we overcome rebellion and save Gwangju and the Republic of Korea."

Yang Bunam, the General Standing Election Committee Chairman, along with Assemblymen Min Hyungbae, Park Gyuntaek, Ahn Dogeol, Jeon Jinsuk, Jung Jinwook, and Jo Incheol, held a press conference on the morning of the same day titled "An Appeal to the Citizens of Gwangju to Vote," and urged, "Please end the rebellion through voting."

Chairman Yang emphasized, "Forty-five years ago, in May 1980, the great citizens of Gwangju defended the democracy of the Republic of Korea with their blood against a military coup."

He continued, "This presidential election is being held as the democracy of the Republic of Korea, which was defended with blood, is now being damaged by Yoon Suk-yeol's coup. Standing here at the place where the spirits of May 18 rest, just as democracy was defended with blood forty-five years ago, I am here today to make an earnest appeal to the great citizens of Gwangju to defend the democracy of the Republic of Korea through voting in the election on the 3rd." Chairman Yang reiterated, "If you vote, Gwangju will change, and the democracy of the Republic of Korea will survive."
