Free Checkups and Personalized Consultations Offered in Six Regions
Nowon District in Seoul is operating "Lifelong Health Management Centers" in six regions to prevent chronic diseases and provide tailored health management services to its residents.
According to the National Health Insurance Service, recent national health checkups have shown a significant increase in the number of people with chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, with a particularly rapid rise among younger age groups. In response, Nowon District has established Lifelong Health Management Centers in five locations?Wolgye, Gongneung, Sanggye, Madeul, and Junggye?in addition to the public health center, and is operating them by region.
The centers offer free body composition tests, including blood tests related to metabolic syndrome such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol, as well as abdominal circumference measurements. Based on the test results, residents can receive one-on-one personalized health consultations with health professionals. Rather than providing only one-time checkups, the centers also operate follow-up management programs at six- or twelve-month intervals, along with lifestyle improvement programs focusing on exercise, nutrition, and smoking cessation, to help residents manage their health independently.
The main program, "Wise Healthy Living," targets residents with risk factors for metabolic syndrome and aims to promote healthy eating habits and increased physical activity. The program offers practical nutrition education, such as "eating less salty foods," "reducing sugar intake," and "choosing healthy snacks," as well as exercise education that can be easily practiced in daily life.
The services are available to Nowon residents aged 20 and older, as well as employees working in Nowon District. Individuals can visit their nearest center or make a reservation by phone. All services are completely free of charge, and fasting for at least 10 hours is recommended for accurate testing.
Meanwhile, since 2020, the district has also been operating the "Mobile Health Bus," which visits senior centers, apartment complexes, and welfare centers to provide various checkups?including blood tests, body composition analysis, and bone density tests?along with individual medical consultations.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, stated, "We hope that through the Lifelong Health Management Centers, residents will be able to systematically manage their health and prevent chronic diseases," adding, "We will continue to strengthen resident-centered health promotion services in the future."
