At a relief distribution site operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), Israeli forces opened fire on residents, resulting in at least 30 deaths and more than 100 injuries.
On June 1 (local time), Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that at least 30 people were killed and 115 were injured in an Israeli attack near a relief distribution center operated by the GHF in the early morning hours. AFP, citing Gaza relief workers, reported that at least 10 people were killed and around 100 were injured. It is reported that the dead and wounded were transported to hospitals in Khan Yunis.
The GHF is an organization created by the United States and Israel, aiming to prevent the Palestinian armed group Hamas from diverting or seizing relief supplies. Previously, since March, Israel has imposed a blockade on the Gaza Strip and blocked the entry of relief supplies. Israel also announced that the distribution of relief supplies, previously managed by the United Nations and its affiliated agencies, would be handled through this foundation. The United Nations and the international community opposed this plan, arguing that it could weaponize aid, but Israel proceeded with the distribution of relief supplies through the GHF.
Israel has not released an official statement regarding this incident.
