Jeonnam Records Highest Turnout at 54.39%, Daegu Lowest at 24.13%
Turnout Down 1.74 Percentage Points Compared to Same Time in Previous Presidential Election
Slight Decrease in Participation Attributed to Weekday Voting
As of 5:00 p.m. on May 30, the last day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, the nationwide average early voter turnout stood at 32.95%.
According to the National Election Commission, as of 5:00 p.m., 14,625,746 out of 44,391,871 eligible voters nationwide had participated in early voting.
The nationwide average early voter turnout of 32.95% is 1.74 percentage points lower than the 34.69% recorded at the same time during the 20th presidential election. The lower turnout this time is attributed to the early voting period falling on Thursday and Friday, both weekdays, unlike the previous election, which included a weekend.
On the last day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, the 30th, a voter is casting a ballot at the Sinchon-dong early voting station in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, located near Yonsei University and Ewha Womans University. At the Sinchon-dong early voting station, there was a case the previous day where out-of-district early voters completed identity verification and received their ballots, resulting in a queue for voting that extended outside the polling station.
