Honoring the Achievements and Spirit of Seongho Lee Ik, a Master of Silhak Thought
The city of Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, will hold the 28th Seongho Cultural Festival from May 31 to June 1 at Seongho Park in Idong, Sangnok-gu, to honor the achievements and spirit of Seongho Lee Ik, a leading figure in late Joseon-era Silhak thought.
Hosted by Ansan City and organized by the Ansan Cultural Center, this event marks its 28th year and serves as the city’s representative cultural and arts festival, offering opportunities to directly experience Lee Ik’s Silhak philosophy and traditional culture.
This year’s festival will begin with a memorial ritual at Lee Ik’s shrine and will feature a variety of programs, including the Seongho Drawing Contest, Wari Pungmulnori performance, traditional folk games experience, a concert with Seongho Harabeoji, Samduhoe experience, Seongho Thought panel exhibition, “Continuing the Style and Elegance of Seongho,” and a Korean culture experience zone.
To ensure the safe operation of the festival, the city will conduct a pre-event safety inspection the day before the festival together with Gyeonggi Province and private experts. The inspection will cover the safety status of facilities, electrical and fire equipment, risk factors related to event operations, and overall safety management at the venue. During the festival, an ambulance will be on standby at all times, and the city will focus administrative resources on operating a lost child center and deploying safety personnel.
Ansan Mayor Lee Minguen stated, "I hope this festival, which brings together all citizens, will serve as an opportunity to widely promote the spirit and elegance of Seongho Lee Ik."
