Competed in the 55kg category... Total lift of 177kg
Jung Hye-dam, a second-year student at Seonghwan Middle School in Cheonan, Chungnam, broke the national record three consecutive times in the girls’ middle school 55kg weightlifting category at the 54th National Youth Sports Festival.
According to the Cheonan Office of Education in Chungnam on May 29, Jung Hye-dam set a new record by lifting 71kg in her second snatch attempt at the competition held in Gimhae on May 25. She then broke her own record by successfully lifting 75kg in her third attempt.
She continued her record-breaking performance in the clean and jerk, lifting 102kg to set another new record, and claimed the top spot in her weight class with a total of 177kg.
At this year’s competition, Seonghwan Middle School demonstrated the region’s strength in weightlifting by winning three gold medals and one silver medal in the weightlifting events, including Jung Hye-dam’s achievements.
Lee Byungdo, superintendent of the Cheonan Office of Education, said, “The students’ sweat and determination have led to brilliant results,” and added, “We will continue to work to create an educational environment where student athletes can grow stably.”
Meanwhile, a total of 252 athletes from 52 elementary and middle schools under the Cheonan Office of Education participated in this competition, earning a total of 20 medals: six gold, three silver, and eleven bronze.
