Korea University to Support Harvard Students Facing Study Disruption

Korea University announced on May 29 that it will actively support professors, researchers, and students who are experiencing difficulties in their studies and research due to the U.S. government's restrictions on the registration of international students. This measure follows the recent decision by the U.S. government to revoke Harvard University's certification for the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), prompting Korea University to implement follow-up measures.

Korea University stated that it intends to help affected students continue their studies and research without interruption. The university plans to prepare a variety of support measures for professors, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate students.

First, the university plans to swiftly recruit distinguished international faculty members with extensive research experience through special invitations. To minimize research disruption, the university will also provide support for residential needs, such as dormitories and housing, if necessary. Outstanding early-career postdoctoral researchers will be appointed as research-focused faculty, enabling them to continue collaborative research with current faculty members.

For graduate students, the university aims to facilitate transfer admissions so they can continue their academic pursuits. Korea University also plans to recognize credits currently being earned through seasonal semesters and exchange programs. For undergraduate students, support will be expanded to enable credit acquisition and smooth re-enrollment through transfer admissions, seasonal semesters, and short-term programs such as exchange programs.

Kim Dongwon, President of Korea University, said, "We will spare no effort in supporting students so that they can continue their studies under challenging circumstances, in order to nurture the next generation of scholars."
