Overnight Efforts to Extinguish Remaining Embers

A fire broke out in an old building near Sewoon Shopping Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, and the main blaze was brought under control after about five hours.

Kim Chunsu, head of administration at the Seoul Jungbu Fire Station, stated during an on-site briefing at around 8:25 p.m. on May 28, 2025, "We put our utmost effort into extinguishing the fire, and the main blaze was brought under control at 8:20 p.m."


The fire authorities plan to continue overnight efforts to extinguish any remaining embers and fully put out the fire. As of this time, 446 personnel and 100 pieces of equipment have been mobilized for the operation. The fire prompted the issuance of Response Level 1 at 3:49 p.m., which was then raised to Level 2 at 4:37 p.m. However, at 6:42 p.m., the response level was downgraded back to Level 1.


According to the fire authorities, the fire, which originated for unknown reasons inside the first floor of an old commercial building, produced flames and smoke. A man in his 70s inhaled smoke on the third floor of the building and was transported to a nearby hospital. However, after additional checks by eight rescue teams, no other casualties have been reported so far.


According to the fire authorities, at around 3:25 p.m. on May 28, 2025, a fire broke out in an old commercial building near Sewoon Daelim Shopping Center in Euljiro. Due to the fire, all lanes from Euljiro 3-ga to Euljiro 4-ga in the direction of City Hall were completely closed. Smoke also entered nearby subway stations such as Euljiro 4-ga Station, but it was confirmed that train operations were not affected.
