According to Lotte Mart and Supermarket on the 29th, Jang Sewook, MD of the Liquor Team, received the French wine honorary title "Commanderie" at the international wine expo "Vinexpo Asia" held in Singapore on the 27th. The Commanderie is a medal awarded by the Bordeaux Wine Association, which consists of wine producers and brokers from the Bordeaux region of France, to wine experts and notable figures from around the world who have contributed to the development of the global wine industry. Along with the "Jurade de Saint-Emilion" and "Chevalier," it is considered one of the top three representative wine honorary titles in France.
Jang Sewook received the Commanderie title in recognition of his contributions to the popularization of wine and the revitalization of the wine market. In 2020, he exclusively launched the ultra-low-priced wine "Real Fuente" in the 3,000 won price range, and through the Lotte Signature Wine Series, he provided famous wines from around the world such as "Trivento," "Kilikanoon," and "Lan" at reasonable prices, helping to lower the entry barriers for wine. He also contributed to the activation of the wine market by expanding the selection of Bordeaux Grand Cru wines handled by Lotte Mart, thereby satisfying the preferences of wine enthusiasts.
In addition, since the end of 2023, he has led the launch of Lotte Mart and Supermarket's exclusive wine brand "TASTY" series, introducing wines that customers can enjoy easily and deliciously at prices in the 10,000 won range. The TASTY series currently ranks among the top in wine sales at Lotte Mart and Supermarket. In September, a new product based on wines from the Bordeaux region of France is also scheduled for release.
Including Jang Sewook, Lotte Mart and Supermarket have produced a total of four recipients of wine honorary titles. Previously, Lee Youngeun, Head of the Liquor Division at Lotte Mart and Supermarket, received the Commanderie title in 2019, Kim Woong, Head of the Liquor Team, received it in 2024, and Park Hyejin, Head of the Bottle Bunker Team, received the "Dame Chevalier" title from the French Champagne organization OCC (Ordre des Coteaux de Champagne) in 2023.
In 2021, Lotte Mart launched the mega wine shop "Bottle Bunker," becoming the first large-scale supermarket to do so and leading trends in the domestic wine market. The company also assigns experts who have completed the international wine certification WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) up to Level 3 as wine managers in the liquor division, providing a variety of exclusive products and personalized curation services for customers.
To celebrate Jang Sewook's receipt of the Commanderie title, Lotte Mart plans to offer up to 20% discounts on popular French wines, including Bordeaux Grand Cru, starting from the 5th of next month.
Jang Sewook said, "I am honored that my efforts to introduce the charm of wine to Korean consumers in an easy and approachable way have been recognized by the Bordeaux Wine Association, the home of wine. I will continue to bring a diverse range of wines from around the world, including French Bordeaux wines, at reasonable prices, and strive to make wine even more accessible and enjoyable for Korean consumers."
