Gyeonggi Fire Department to Inspect Fire Safety at 366 Sites Including Resource Recycling Facilities Throughout June

The Gyeonggi Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters will conduct fire safety inspections at 366 high-risk sites, including resource recycling facilities within the province, throughout June.

On May 28, the Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced that it will carry out fire safety inspections at 366 high-risk sites vulnerable to moisture, including 165 resource recycling facilities, 154 waste battery processing companies, and 47 Class 3 hazardous material manufacturing plants.

This inspection will be conducted without prior notice. If any violations are found, immediate corrective action must be taken. In addition, in cases of repeated violations or serious defects, criminal charges and administrative penalties will be imposed.

Kim Jaebyung, head of the Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "The rainy season is a time when both humidity and temperature simultaneously increase the risk of fire," and added, "Since prevention is more important than anything else, we ask for the active cooperation of residents and businesses."

Previously, following a fire at a primary battery manufacturing plant in Hwaseong last year, the Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters, in cooperation with Gyeonggi Province, inspected a total of 476 sites related to primary and secondary batteries and waste batteries, and took administrative action on 191 violations.

Meanwhile, an analysis of fires in the province over the past five years found that 71% of fires caused by chemical factors at resource recycling facilities resulted from spontaneous combustion in hot and humid environments. In addition, at smaller resource recycling facilities, significant property damage was caused by inadequate fire suppression systems and prolonged delays in extinguishing fires, indicating the need for preventive measures.
