"Training Practical Talent"... Biohealth Academy Support Project Open for Applications

Applications Open Until June 10 for Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Companies by Ministry of Health and Welfare and Korea Health Industry Development Institute
Customized Training Programs Designed and Operated Based on Each Company's Talent Needs

The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute announced on May 27 that they will be accepting applications for the "2025 Biohealth Academy Program Operation Support Project" until June 10. The program aims to alleviate the mismatch between supply and demand for talent in the biohealth sector and to support the training of practical professionals based on industry needs.

"Training Practical Talent"... Biohealth Academy Support Project Open for Applications

This newly launched project for this year aims to produce professionals who have completed practical training required in the biohealth field. The focus is on addressing the talent needs of companies that cannot be met by existing government and private education programs. To achieve this, companies will directly participate in developing and operating the programs, with an emphasis on cultivating the core talent they require.

The program targets areas with significant talent supply-demand mismatches and capability gaps, such as artificial intelligence (AI), cell and gene therapy, and neurotechnology. It is designed for prospective job seekers in the biohealth sector, including undergraduate and graduate students, job seekers (including those changing jobs) with less than three years of experience, and those seeking employment after graduation. The education will support the development and operation of customized curricula according to corporate talent needs, including: ▲ a theoretical and practical training course (approximately three months) plus a corporate internship project (three months plus alpha); ▲ a corporate experiential job training program of at least three months; and ▲ a summer or winter job camp internship of about four to eight weeks.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute plan to select a total of five operating organizations through a selection evaluation process next month. Each organization will receive approximately 300 million KRW per year for up to three years, until the end of 2027. In addition, the ministries will provide customized support to encompass the objectives and purposes of each ministry's support projects. This includes streamlining relevant procedures and establishing necessary systems to enable linkage with the "KDT Support Project" through inter-ministerial cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

Detailed information on how to participate in the project application can be found in the business announcements section of the Korea Health Industry Development Institute website.

Song Taekyun, Head of the Biohealth Innovation Division at the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, stated, "The biohealth industry, as the next semiconductor, requires rapid technological change and skilled talent. However, there have been practical limitations for educational institutions to independently cultivate talent that meets corporate needs. Through the Biohealth Academy project, companies will jointly nurture talent needed for industrial change, supplying professionals who meet on-site demand and, furthermore, providing a key foundation for achieving innovative results across the entire biohealth sector."
