Cheerful Sports Event and Futsal Tournament
Held for Multicultural Families and Children from Underprivileged Backgrounds
The Friends Talent Volunteer Group of POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (headed by Ko Jaeyoon) organized a variety of sports events for local children and multicultural families on May 23 and 24 in celebration of Family Month.
On May 24, the Friends Talent Volunteer Group of Gwangyang Steelworks held the "We Are The Family" cheerful sports event together with multicultural families in the region at the Hoyeong Hall of Gwangyang Steelworks Elementary School.

The event was attended by a total of about 200 people, including Jeong Inhwa, Mayor of Gwangyang; Lee Seungbok, Deputy Head of Process Quality at Gwangyang Steelworks; Ryu Hoseong, Secretary General of Jeonnam Dragons; Lee Juhwa, Head of Gwangyang City Family Center; members of multicultural families; Friends Talent Volunteer Group members; and officials from Jeonnam Dragons.
The cheerful sports event featured a variety of games for both children and adults. Activities included Dance Time, target throwing, hula hoop endurance, color board flipping, rolling a soccer ball around a turning point, and tail chase, among other diverse games and athletic competitions.
Participants received a variety of gifts, including home appliances such as induction cookers, hair dryers, and irons, as well as Jeonnam Dragons T-shirts, stationery sets, and mini soccer balls, which further boosted the festive atmosphere.
Choi Changrok, Head of the Friends Talent Volunteer Group at Gwangyang Steelworks, stated, "I hope this event serves as an opportunity for our local community and multicultural families to become closer," adding, "We will continue to create opportunities to share happiness and communicate together with multicultural families."
Previously, on May 23, the Gwangyang Steelworks Happy Dream Tree Soccer Talent Volunteer Group held a futsal tournament for children from underprivileged backgrounds at Baegun Greenland, supporting the healthy growth of the children.
About 150 children, including those from Gwangyang regional children's centers, participated in the event. The futsal matches were organized by team, with lower and upper grade students and girls' teams, and a trophy ceremony was held for the winning team at the end of the matches.
In particular, 120 sports jerseys and athletic wear tops were given as commemorative gifts to the participating children, providing them with special presents and creating cherished memories.
Park Jongil, Deputy Head of Administration at Gwangyang Steelworks, who delivered a congratulatory address at the event, said, "I hope today's game becomes a meaningful memory for the children," and added, "We will continue to share warmth so that the children of our community can pursue their dreams."
Meanwhile, POSCO is holding a special volunteer week, "Global Volunteer Week," from May 22 to May 31, during which all POSCO Group employees in Korea and abroad participate in sharing activities. In the Gwangyang region alone, more than 9,800 people are taking part.
