Yangcheon District Launches "Digital-Based Medical Services" Using IT Technology and Robotics

From Safe Vaccinations to Robot-Assisted Rehabilitation at the Health Center Annex

Yangcheon District in Seoul has launched an initiative to innovate public healthcare through "digital-based medical services" utilizing advanced equipment such as IT technology and robotics.

In March, the district opened an annex to the public health center near Sinjeongnegeori Station, with a total floor area of 7,600 square meters. The annex has begun to introduce a variety of advanced services, ranging from infectious disease prevention and customized health management for people with disabilities to robot-assisted rehabilitation.

In the vaccination room of the health center annex, the district operates a "Safe Vaccination Integrated Platform" using mobile QR codes. When the QR code is scanned, vaccine information is provided via audio guidance, and individuals can perform self-checks for adverse reactions after vaccination, enabling rapid post-vaccination response. Medical staff can prevent vaccination errors through barcode scanning and automatic electronic registration of vaccines, and they can also monitor vaccine inventory and adverse reactions in real time.

The district also provides a "healthcare service" that can be used without discrimination by both people with disabilities and those without. The Metabolic Syndrome Specialized Management Center is equipped with special devices such as a "body composition analyzer specialized for people with disabilities" and a "wheelchair scale," allowing people with disabilities to receive systematic health management. The body composition analyzer can be used while sitting or lying down, and the wheelchair scale has no ledge, making it easily accessible for wheelchair users.

The health center annex's multipurpose room is also piloting "robot-assisted physical therapy." Wearable robots analyze the user's walking strength to provide customized gait training, primarily targeting residents who experience walking difficulties due to musculoskeletal disorders or brain lesions.

Lee Gijae, Mayor of Yangcheon District, stated, "I hope that all residents will be able to enjoy a healthy daily life through the newly introduced professional and innovative healthcare services." He also said, "We will continue to apply advanced technology to a variety of public healthcare services to improve residents' quality of life and take the lead in addressing health disparities."
