Gangnam-gu, Seoul is participating in the '2025 Korea Travel Expo' held at the Taipei World Trade Center in Taiwan from May 23 to 26, operating the 'Gangnam Medical Tourism Promotion Center' and promoting its status as a leading city for medical tourism.
At this expo, Gangnam-gu is joined by seven medical institutions, including Ruby Plastic Surgery, View Plastic Surgery, Allheart Plastic Surgery, Hershe Plastic Surgery, Gangnam Central Eye Clinic, Samsung Miracle Eye Clinic, and Min&Min Clinic. Together, they are showcasing medical technologies and patient-tailored services in fields such as dermatology and plastic surgery, which are highly preferred locally, and are emphasizing the competitiveness of Gangnam’s medical sector with a focus on medical-beauty convergence content.
In particular, Gangnam-gu is attracting the attention of Generation Z and the MZ generation by operating experience-based programs such as live broadcasts in collaboration with local Taiwanese influencers, social media participation events, creator shows, and a skin analysis experience zone. In addition, the district is actively promoting differentiated medical tourism services, including the 'Gangnam Medical Tour Center,' the medical expense comparison platform 'Medical Gangnam,' and a 'concierge service' that covers everything from airport arrival to medical consultation, interpretation, and tourism.
Gangnam-gu attracted 185,559 foreign patients in 2023, and last year recorded 377,043, achieving the highest performance nationwide in the field of medical tourism. In particular, the number of Taiwanese patients surged nearly threefold, from 4,716 in 2023 to 14,043 last year, making Taiwan the fourth largest country in terms of foreign patients visiting Gangnam-gu.
Gangnam-gu Mayor Cho Sungmyung stated, "Taiwan is a strategically emerging market where demand for K-Medical is rapidly growing, and we will effectively communicate the appeal of Gangnam’s medical tourism to the local market through digital content-driven participatory marketing." He added, "We will continue to strengthen the status of the Gangnam brand as a representative of K-Medical in the Greater China market."
