On this day, through social media, Lee expressed his longing for former President Roh on the 16th anniversary of his passing. He said, "It has already been 16 years since the President left our side," and added, "Although time has passed, all of us gathered here today still cannot let you go, holding on to your unfinished dreams."
In particular, Lee highlighted that former President Roh provided two key milestones in his own life. He explained, "During my time at the Judicial Research and Training Institute, when I was privately struggling between personal success and social responsibility after passing the bar exam, a special lecture by human rights lawyer Roh Moo Hyun illuminated the direction of my life." He continued, "The path of President Roh, who valued justice over personal comfort and principles over compromise, became my own path." Lee further stated, "Although no one else dared to step forward, his bold implementation of political reforms became another turning point in my life. The President's active efforts to revise the Political Funds Act and improve the transparent nomination system broke the chronic problem of 'money politics' and eliminated unreasonable practices." He added, "He opened a new path for politicians whose assets are ability and sincerity, not background or financial power. It was thanks to former President Roh that I, Lee Jae Myung, who was involved in civic activism in Seongnam in 2006, was able to bravely decide to run in the local elections."
Lee also reaffirmed his determination to become the successor to former President Roh, who stood against vested interests, regionalism, privilege, and unfairness. He said, "Whenever I recall the phrase the President often used, 'A river never gives up on reaching the sea,' the decisive moments of transformation in my life come to mind." He continued, "Now, I dare to continue the journey of that river." Emphasizing his commitment to the spirit of former President Roh's 'world where people live with dignity'?which includes balanced regional development, guaranteeing fair opportunities, creating a society without privilege and unfairness, and a world where the people are the true owners?Lee declared, "I will overcome today's despair and cultivate the hope of tomorrow. The river will ultimately reach the sea."
