"Youth Impact Must Be Considered When Addressing Employment and Labor Agendas"
Kwon Kisub, Chairman of the Economic, Social and Labor Council, stated on the 22nd, "Youth employment is in a crisis," adding, "The qualitative situation of jobs faced by young people is also changing due to factors such as low growth and the spread of artificial intelligence (AI), so extraordinary measures are needed."
Chairman Kwon made these remarks at the 3rd Generation Empathy Social Dialogue Advisory Meeting held that day. He went on to say, "It is urgent to find ways for the young generation to have quality jobs," and emphasized, "Whenever we consider any employment and labor agenda, we must take into account the impact on youth employment."
This meeting was convened to focus on the youth employment issue, which all advisory members agreed was critical during the previous second meeting, in order to diagnose the current situation and seek future response directions. Attendees included Lee Kikwon, Advisor at Kim & Chang Law Firm; Lee Sungkyung, former Secretary General of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions; and Song Kangjik, Professor at Dong-A University Law School.
Kim Yubin, Director of the Employment Policy Research Division at the Korea Labor Institute, gave a presentation on "The Current Status of Youth Employment and Employment Support Policies." He identified the qualitative deterioration of youth jobs and the deepening gap in employment among the younger generation as the main problems facing youth employment, and presented an overview evaluation of twelve major youth policies along with future tasks.
