Vinatech Signs Long-Term Supply Agreement with Bloom Energy for AI Data Center Supercapacitors

On May 22, Vinattech, a company specializing in the manufacturing of supercapacitors and hydrogen fuel cells, announced that it had signed a long-term supply agreement with Bloom Energy, a global leader in solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology, to provide supercapacitors for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. Through this agreement, Vinattech will become the exclusive supplier of its high-performance supercapacitors for Bloom Energy's next-generation SOFC systems.

Vinatech Signs Long-Term Supply Agreement with Bloom Energy for AI Data Center Supercapacitors

The supply contract concerns the provision of supercapacitor cells to Bloom Energy. The two companies are actively discussing ways to expand their collaboration to include entire systems in the future. Vinattech anticipates that this marks the beginning of a strategic partnership that will evolve beyond the simple supply of components to the development of high-value-added total solutions, and the company expects this to broaden its value chain.

Vinattech's high-performance supercapacitor technology, when integrated with Bloom Energy's SOFC systems, responds effectively to the rapid fluctuations in power demand at AI data centers. This synergy is expected to enhance energy efficiency. In particular, AI workloads?such as the training and inference of artificial intelligence models?are characterized by sudden spikes in power consumption, unlike general computing tasks. Vinattech’s supercapacitors have been adopted as a key component to reliably manage these power peaks and ensure uninterrupted power supply.

Due to the explosive proliferation of generative AI and large language models, global data center power consumption is projected to more than double by 2025 compared to current levels. Amid this rapid growth, data center power systems utilizing eco-friendly energy sources like SOFCs are gaining attention, and power stability tailored to the characteristics of AI workloads is becoming increasingly important. AI workloads, which occur when artificial intelligence systems such as large language models (LLMs) or generative AI perform training and inference, generate computational loads that can cause power usage to spike by up to 10 times in irregular patterns, unlike general IT systems.

Vinattech’s supercapacitors offer charging and discharging speeds more than 100 times faster than lithium-ion batteries and boast a lifespan of hundreds of thousands of cycles. These features enable immediate response to sudden changes in power demand from AI workloads, making them essential for the stable operation of data centers. In addition, as environmentally friendly products that do not use hazardous substances, they align with ESG initiatives and are receiving positive responses from global companies.

Through this agreement, Vinattech will supply its supercapacitors to major AI data centers via Bloom Energy. Vinattech stated, "Alongside AI semiconductors, power management solutions are a hidden growth driver of the AI industry," and added, "We are focusing on developing next-generation supercapacitors with higher energy density and faster charging and discharging speeds through aggressive R&D investment."
