The art of fermentation, a tradition passed down for 600 years, and the rich flavors of aged skate?representative of southern Korean banquet tables?along with premium Naju Korean beef, will come together in a vibrant food festival held this week in Yeongsanpo, Naju.

According to Naju City on May 21, the 21st Yeongsanpo Skate·Korean Beef Festival will take place from May 23 to May 25 for three days at the Yeongsanpo Dunchi Citizen Sports Park and its surrounding areas.

The Yeongsanpo Skate Festival is the longest-running food culture festival in the Naju region. Starting this year, the festival has been renamed the Yeongsanpo Skate·Korean Beef Festival.

The festival organizing committee plans to introduce not only aged skate but also Naju beef, renowned nationwide for its top-quality texture and freshness, to gourmets from across the country.

In particular, for three days at the festival's skate sales booths, visitors can purchase aged skate at a 50% discount and Naju Korean beef at a 30% discount, as part of a special promotional event.

Visitors to the nearby Skate Street shopping district can also enjoy aged skate at discounted prices.

Near the festival venue at Yeongsangang Dunchi Park, red poppies in full bloom create a breathtaking scene. The blend of vibrant red poppies and delicate white baby's breath flowers weaves a fantastic landscape.

Naju City has cultivated this area to coincide with the skate festival, covering 140,000 square meters (approximately 42,000 pyeong). Parking is available free of charge at the Yeongsangang Dunchi Citizen Sports Park, nearby parking lots, and along the roadside.

In Jeollanam-do, the main production area for skate, people typically enjoy fermented skate sashimi, known for its sharp and tangy flavor. The "Skate Samhap" (three-part platter) combines aged skate sashimi with chewy boiled pork and well-fermented aged kimchi, while adding savory seaweed creates the "Skate Sahap" (four-part platter) for an even richer taste experience.

Exhibition and tasting booths will also be set up, featuring over ten varieties of Namdo Makgeolli?traditional rice wine that pairs perfectly with aged skate?including offerings from Nohan Jeonggojip and Dado Chamjugara, sure to delight food and drink enthusiasts alike.

In addition to sashimi, visitors can savor a variety of skate dishes that stimulate the palate, such as steamed skate, skate pancakes, skate salad, skate liver soup, and "Hongtak"?a dish combining skate with Makgeolli.

On the final night, May 25, a fireworks show will light up the night sky over the Yeongsangang River.

Yoon Byungtae, Mayor of Naju, said, "We welcome gourmets from all over the country to the newly improved Naju Yeongsanpo Skate·Korean Beef Festival," and added, "We hope you create precious memories over the three days, enjoying a variety of foods such as aged skate and Korean beef, along with fun sights and activities."
