Nowon-gu District Office in Seoul (Mayor Oh Seungrok) held the "2025 Flood and Storm Disaster Safety Measures Briefing" at 2:30 p.m. on May 20 in the Integrated Defense Situation Room on the first basement level of the district office, reviewing each department's response plans for summer flood and storm disasters.
This briefing was organized to proactively respond to natural disasters in the summer, such as heavy rainfall and typhoons caused by climate change. The meeting was attended by Mayor Oh Seungrok, the Director of the Safety, Transportation and Construction Bureau, the Head of the Water Management Division, the heads of departments responsible for flood and storm response, and other related officials.
Prior to the briefing, Mayor Oh Seungrok held a plaque unveiling ceremony for the Flood and Storm Disaster Safety Measures Headquarters, and then proceeded to thoroughly review the district's disaster response plans.
During the briefing, the following agenda items were presented by the relevant departments: an overall report on flood and storm response measures; recovery and support plans in the event of a disaster; support measures for disaster victims and temporary housing; safety measures for deteriorated buildings in redevelopment areas; and management plans for high-risk areas such as construction sites and steep slopes.
In particular, there was an in-depth discussion on countermeasures to prevent flooding in semi-basement homes, improvement of control systems in areas at risk of river flooding, and pre-inspection and response plans for landslide-prone areas. In addition, the securing of reserve personnel and equipment for rapid recovery in the event of damage was also reviewed.
Mayor Oh Seungrok emphasized, "Only effective preemptive measures can reduce damage," and called for "thorough cooperation between departments and seamless preparation to minimize damage and protect the lives and property of residents."
