Jeonnam Province and Office of Education Budgets Reviewed... Issues Raised Over Carryovers and Unused Funds
Final Audit Opinion Report to Be Made Public on Provincial Council Website
The Jeonnam Provincial Council recently completed its audit of the final accounts for Jeonnam Province and the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education for the 2024 fiscal year.
On the 20th, the council announced, "The audit of the final accounts, which was conducted over a 20-day period and concluded on the 17th, has been completed." The audit was carried out by a 10-member inspection committee led by Councilor Park Jongwon (Democratic Party of Korea, Damyang 1).
The audit covered all areas of budget, funds, and financial accounting, including the main office of Jeonnam Province, its affiliated organizations, business offices, investment and funded institutions, as well as all agencies under the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education.
As a result of the audit, Jeonnam Province was criticized for excessive carryovers and unused funds in certain projects, inadequate performance management, and inappropriate operation of fund-based projects. For the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, suggestions were made to improve the efficiency of managing educational support staff, expand cooperation projects with cities and counties, and enhance the operation of career and college counseling centers.
Park Jongwon, the chief inspector, stated, "This audit of the final accounts is a process to ensure that the precious tax money of residents has been properly used." He emphasized, "Jeonnam Province and the Provincial Office of Education should thoroughly review the issues raised and promptly prepare corrective measures." He added, "I hope you will continue to develop creative projects for the advancement of provincial administration and educational governance, and work to improve systems and devise innovative measures for efficient fiscal management."
Meanwhile, the audit opinion report will be submitted to the council along with the final accounts and is scheduled to be made public through the Jeonnam Provincial Council website in early June.
