To Be Held at the Traditional Arts Experience Village from May 22 to 25
The Gochang Culture and Tourism Foundation will host the 2025 Craft Week event, "Craft for Life, Craft for Everyday," from May 22 to 25.
According to the foundation on May 20, this event is part of "Korea Craft Week 2025," which is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and hosted by the Korea Craft and Design Foundation. The event was planned to promote the spread of craft culture within the local community.
The event, which will take place at the Gochang Traditional Arts Experience Village (in front of the Seomun Gate of Moyang Fortress), is themed "Gochang's Craft Passed Down Through Generations, Sensing the Value of Everyday Life Through Craft." It will feature a variety of programs, including exhibitions of local artisans' works, craft experience programs, a craft market selling handmade goods and local foods, and performances.
On May 22, the Gochang Craft Exhibition "Craft for Life: A Space for Memory" will showcase works such as yundo (compasses), embroidery, ceramics, and natural dyeing?created based on the skills and wisdom handed down by Gochang's master artisans over many years. Additionally, "Craft for Everyday: A Space for Sensing" will introduce craftworks by local artisans that highlight both the function and beauty of craft naturally integrated into daily life.
Starting May 23, there will be a craft market where Gochang artisans and residents will sell handmade goods and local foods. Visitors can also participate in a variety of craft experience programs to create their own works, join masterclasses led by holders of Gochang's intangible heritage and master artisans, and visit promotional booths for Gochang's seven world heritage sites and its healing culture city. Performances by local artists will also be held.
Cho Changhwan, executive director, said, "This event emphasizes that craft is not just art but a part of daily life, and we expect it to become a venue for sharing and reflecting on craft in everyday life. We hope it will be a special opportunity to truly feel and experience the crafts of Gochang."
