Gyeonggi Province will conduct an inspection of 315 elevator manufacturing, importing, and maintenance companies.
On May 20, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will conduct a comprehensive inspection of a total of 315 companies registered in the province under the Elevator Safety Management Act by the end of this year. This includes 101 manufacturing and importing companies and 214 maintenance companies. The provincial government will be responsible for inspecting manufacturing and importing companies, while city and county governments will inspect maintenance companies.
The main inspection items include: compliance with business registration requirements (such as capital, technical personnel, and equipment); the adequacy of self-inspections and the accuracy of inputting results; fulfillment of obligations to report major accidents or breakdowns; and disclosure of parts information and the status of joint contracts.
In particular, the province and local governments will jointly conduct additional sample inspections of maintenance companies with a history of past violations, major accidents (or breakdowns), or delayed input of self-inspection results.
If any violations are found as a result of the inspection, the province plans to prevent poor elevator manufacturing and maintenance through administrative measures.
Gyeonggi Province conducts a comprehensive inspection of elevator companies in the province every year. Last year, administrative measures such as business suspension, fines, and penalty surcharges were imposed on 21 manufacturing and importing companies and 12 maintenance companies.
Lee Jongdon, Director of Safety Management at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Poor elevator manufacturing or negligent maintenance can directly lead to safety accidents and result in harm to residents. We will do our utmost to create an environment where residents can use elevators with peace of mind through these inspections."
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province is home to 28% of the nation’s elevators and 30% of related manufacturing, importing, and maintenance companies.
