The meeting, held on May 12, was organized to prepare for summer natural disasters?such as storms, floods, and heat waves?that are becoming increasingly complex and diverse each year due to climate change.
On this day, under the leadership of Deputy County Governor Ryu Haeseok, all 14 town and township mayors attended to review preemptive preparedness measures and discuss future plans.
The main items reviewed included measures to address storm and flood damage in areas within each town and township that are at risk of casualties, disaster-prone zones, and construction sites. The officials also checked the designation of responsible personnel and evacuation plans for residents. In addition, in order to proactively prepare for heat waves before the onset of extreme heat, the management of cooling shelters and support for vulnerable groups in welfare blind spots were closely examined as part of efforts to prevent casualties.
Deputy County Governor Ryu Haeseok emphasized, "Disasters can strike without warning, so it is most important to take preemptive steps in advance." He added, "The role of town and township mayors, who are on the front lines, is crucial. I ask that you play an active role in protecting the lives and property of residents by conducting field-centered monitoring and inspections, enabling prompt decision-making and actions, and establishing a proactive response system."
