Mayor Lee Embarks on a 3-Day Jirisan Workshop with 20 Staff Members on the Evening of the 7th,
Sharing the Joy of Deepened Camaraderie
Lee Pilhyung, the mayor of Dongdaemun District, who is known for his 'iron stamina' comparable to that of a professional mountaineer through traversing the Baekdudaegan mountain range, hiking Jirisan, and even climbing the Himalayas, announced that he completed the Jirisan traverse with his staff, confirming a sense of camaraderie and community spirit.
On the evening of May 7, at around 7 p.m., Mayor Lee departed Seoul with about 20 staff members, arrived at a Jirisan mountain lodge, and then began a strenuous trek across Jirisan starting at midnight.
On May 9, at 4 a.m., Mayor Lee climbed Nogodan from Seongsamjae. He posted a brief message and photos on his Facebook page to share the experience.
Mayor Lee stated, "We watched the sunrise and then set off in earnest in four groups. During the two-day, one-night hike from Imgeollyeong, Tokkibong, and Samdobong to Yeonhacheon and Byeoksoryeong, a few members faced the risk of falling behind." He added, "However, everyone helped each other by preparing meals, carrying backpacks for one another, pulling each other along, and looking out for each other, so all members succeeded."
He continued, "Due to rain, the national park was closed, so we descended the mountain before reaching Cheonwangbong, but what remained was a deepened sense of camaraderie and the community spirit that comes from being together." He concluded, "I believe that the staff, who have learned the profound meaning of community firsthand, will go on to create a better Dongdaemun together with our residents."
He seemed proud that the challenging Jirisan traverse provided an opportunity to confirm camaraderie and a sense of community among the staff members.
