Democratic Party Gwangju City Party Launches 'Real Republic of Korea Election Committee' for June 3 Presidential Election

The Gwangju City Party of the Democratic Party of Korea held the launch ceremony of the June 3 Presidential Election 'Real Republic of Korea Gwangju Election Countermeasures Committee' on the 8th, composed of the standing election countermeasures committee chairpersons and standing advisors, as well as representatives from various sectors. The Gwangju City Party of the Democratic Party of Korea held the launch ceremony for the June 3 Presidential Election 'Real Republic of Korea Gwangju Election Countermeasures Committee' on May 8, 2025.

The Gwangju election committee is composed of key figures from various sectors, including Yang Bunam, Chief Standing Election Countermeasures Committee Chairperson; Lee Jongseok, Standing Election Countermeasures Committee Chairperson and President of the Christian Council; Monk Jiseon; Oh Eundo, District Head of the Won-Buddhism Church; Kim Seungwon, Standing Representative of Gwangminhoe; Won Sunseok, Chairman of the May 18 Memorial Foundation; and lawmakers Min Hyungbae, Jeong Jinwook, An Dogeol, Cho Incheol, Jeong Junho, Jeon Jinsuk, and Park Gyuntaek.

The standing advisory board will include former Gwangju mayors Park Gwangtae and Lee Yongsup; former lawmakers Park Hyeja, Song Gapseok, Lee Byunghun, and Lee Hyungseok; and Lee Jeonghee, former Vice Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.

Yang Bunam, Chief Standing Election Countermeasures Committee Chairperson, stated, "It is a joy to have overcome all the waves from the December 3 Martial Law to today and to be holding the launch ceremony for the 21st presidential election," and added, "Let us create the real Republic of Korea together with candidate Lee Jaemyung."

Park Jiwon, Co-Chairperson of the Central Election Countermeasures Committee, who attended the launch ceremony, emphasized, "The citizens of Gwangju overcame rebellion and, at last, defeated yesterday's judicial coup. At the root of overcoming martial law, dismissal, and the judicial coup lies the May 18 Spirit of the citizens of Gwangju."

Jeong Cheongrae, Gwangju-Jeonnam Chairperson of the Neighborhood-by-Neighborhood Central Election Countermeasures Committee, stated, "We suppressed the December 3 Martial Law through the people's historic victory. Now, our task is to completely end the rebellion and achieve victory on June 3."

Lee Byunghun, Standing Advisor, stressed, "To win the presidential election, it is important to gain support from the centrist voters and to increase voter turnout. Let us secure overwhelming support in the Honam region."

Lee Jeonghee, Standing Advisor, remarked, "All these incidents caused by the rebellious forces are the result of failing to eliminate the remnants of Japanese colonial rule. We must win this battle, which is directly related to our survival."

Meanwhile, participants at the launch ceremony pledged to lead the charge for a change in government, chanting slogans such as "From now on, the Real Republic of Korea!" and "Now is the time for Lee Jaemyung!"
