Youth in Yeonggwang County, South Jeolla Province, have strongly protested against former Prime Minister Lee Nakyeon, who recently hinted at the possibility of joining the "anti-Lee Jaemyung big tent." Yeonggwang County is Lee's hometown.

On the 8th, "Yeonggwang Youth," a group of young people active in the region, issued a statement urging, "Former Prime Minister Lee Nakyeon must stop his current political activities, which only add to the confusion."

The group asked, "In the current political situation, is your message 'replace the Democratic Party' or 'judge the current administration'?" They pointed out, "At a time when the regression of the Yoon Sukyeol administration and the unchecked power of the prosecution continue, the figure who should be at the center of the opposition is instead shaking the party from within."

They continued, "Calls for replacing the presidential candidate and public criticism of the Democratic Party leadership are nothing more than remarks that incite division," adding, "He has abandoned the minimum sense of duty owed to the party he once belonged to."

Recently, Lee Nakyeon has been the subject of ongoing speculation in political circles about his possible participation in the "anti-Lee Jaemyung big tent," which includes Han Deoksoo, who declared his candidacy for president as an independent on the 6th, as well as Kim Moonsu of the People Power Party, Lee Joonseok of the Reform Party, and Hwang Kyoan, an independent preliminary candidate.

Yeonggwang Youth emphasized, "Former Prime Minister Lee must immediately stop divisive words and actions that undermine the unity of the Democratic Party and Honam politics. He should reflect on his responsibilities as an opposition politician standing against the Yoon Sukyeol administration and act accordingly. Stop the opportunistic politics that throw your hometown and the democratic camp into confusion."

They also stated, "There may be differences in political opinion, but if those differences undermine the foundation and spirit of the community, young people will not remain silent," adding, "We hope former Prime Minister Lee Nakyeon will make a choice befitting the demands of the times and his hometown."

Meanwhile, Lee Nakyeon is a native of Yeonggwang County, South Jeolla Province. He has served as Governor of South Jeolla Province, the 45th Prime Minister under the Moon Jaein administration, a five-term National Assembly member, leader of the Democratic Party, and head of Saeroun Mirae.
