This award, sponsored annually by Youngone Corporation, aims to discover young research talent in the field of clothing and textiles and to encourage academic development.
The Young Scholar Award is presented to outstanding early-career researchers under the age of 40 who have obtained their final degree within the past 10 years, and is divided into the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences categories. Professor Jeong earned her bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees at Dong-A University and is currently teaching at her alma mater.
She gained recognition in the academic community for her 2023 paper published in the international journal Fashion and Textiles, titled "Shape recovery properties of 3D printed re-entrant strip using shape memory thermoplastic polyurethane filaments with various temperature conditions," which analyzed the shape recovery properties of 3D-printed materials under various temperature conditions.
Previously, in 2022, she published "Compressive properties of 3D printed TPU samples according to infill conditions" in the Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, and has been actively conducting experimental research in the fields of 3D printing and smart clothing.
This research, conducted at Dong-A University's 4D Printing Metastructure-Based Laboratory, is significant in that it provided foundational data for the development of soft actuators for healthcare applications.
This year, she also participated in a study on the development of shoe midsoles using biomimetic structures, co-authoring a paper in Fashion and Textiles that demonstrated the potential for functional improvement through plantar pressure evaluation, further establishing her academic achievements.
In her acceptance speech, Professor Jeong stated, "Receiving this academic award has given me a great sense of responsibility in my research journey," and added, "I will continue to devote myself to research for the advancement of the field."
