Busan Office of Education to Hold "Happy Parents School" Program in May

Customized Lectures for Elementary, Middle, and High School Parents
on the Importance of Reading

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seokjun) will offer an online "Happy Parents School" program for parents in the Busan area this May.

This program focuses on the theme of "The Importance of Reading," aiming to help parents understand the key role reading plays in their children's education and to provide practical guidance on how to encourage reading at home.

The lectures for parents of elementary and middle school students will be held at 10:00 a.m. on May 19 and 20. Kang Yongcheol, a leading EBS instructor and current teacher, will deliver lectures on the topics of "Reading Begins at Home" and "Disappearing Concentration and Literacy in the Smartphone Era." The lectures will cover in depth how to create a reading-friendly environment at home and address issues such as the decline in literacy skills caused by the use of digital devices.

The lecture for parents of high school students will take place at 7:00 p.m. on May 22. Han Jaewoo, head of "Jaewoo's Library," will discuss "Cost-Effective Reading Strategies for Success in College Admissions," sharing insights on the role of reading in managing student records and strategies for utilizing reading as part of the college admissions process.

Registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 10:00 a.m. on May 7 through the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education Parent Support Portal. For more details, parents can visit the portal or contact the Parent Education Promotion Team.

Superintendent Kim Seokjun stated, "Reading is an essential element of children's education, and practicing it at home is more important than anything else," adding, "I hope this program will help parents foster proper reading habits in their children."
