Skonec Entertainment, a leading XR content company in Korea, is drawing attention from the market ahead of the release of its upcoming title, "Who's at the door?". Armed with a unique theme and immersive structure, this work is a story-driven horror game based on the observation of abnormal phenomena that maximizes psychological pressure. It is scheduled for a simultaneous global release in the third quarter of this year.
This game is a first-person single-player experience set in a confined apartment space from the perspective of a protagonist with schizophrenia. Players observe the protagonist's unreal experiences and, based on these observations, must choose whether to open or close the door, progressing the story accordingly. With a multi-ending structure that branches based on the player's observations, the game is designed to offer a new development with each playthrough.
In particular, this new title reinterprets the "abnormal reality genre," which has recently become a trend in the horror game market, with sophisticated direction and plot twists. It is being praised for adding depth to the genre not only through simple horror elements but also through psychological immersion and a complex narrative structure.
A Skonec representative explained, "'Who's at the door?' is being developed based on three key concepts: a unique theme, a rapid development cycle, an accessible pricing policy, and a multi-platform expansion strategy. Starting with PC, we plan to expand to VR and console platforms to target a global user base."
The game has completed its prototype approval process and is currently in active alpha development, with detailed release schedules for each platform being coordinated. The initial launch will be on PC via Steam, followed by sequential expansion to Meta Store and PlayStation Store, with discussions ongoing for releases on additional platforms.
Both the gaming and investment industries are evaluating this new title as a "high-efficiency anticipated release" that combines commercial potential and artistic value. While development costs and risks are relatively low, the multi-platform expansion is expected to significantly contribute to Skonec's performance due to its high revenue potential. In particular, the project is expected to deliver profitability and synergy effects as it brings together Skonec's accumulated experience and expertise in immersive content.
Through "Who's at the door?", Skonec aims to strengthen its portfolio of narrative-driven content, while also preparing various follow-up strategies such as expansion content based on its own IP and cinematic VR-linked content. With this new title as a starting point, the company plans to reinforce its storytelling-based game portfolio and accelerate its entry into the console and multi-platform markets, following its existing VR content.
A Skonec representative added, "Above all, this game is highly regarded in the capital market because it offers an excellent profit structure relative to production costs, enables multi-platform expansion targeting a global user base, and has the potential to develop into a sustainable IP asset. At a time when demand for story-driven immersive content is rising, rapid production, low risk, and a structure that enables repeat consumption directly translate into profitable sales."
