Busan National University to Host Global Festival 'Food & Culture Festival'

Traditional Food and Culture Festival
Hosted by the College of Economics and International Trade on May 9
Introducing Traditions from 15 Countries

Busan National University (President Choi Jaewon) will transform its campus into a hub of world cultures on May 9.

The College of Economics and International Trade at Busan National University will host 'The 7th Food&Culture Festival,' prepared by both international and domestic students, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on that day in the outdoor area near the College of Economics and International Trade.

This festival will feature 15 teams of international students from more than 10 countries, including France, Mongolia, Peru, Paraguay, China, Vietnam, and Russia. Each team will introduce their country's traditional food, attire, and culture. The large-scale event is expected to bring together approximately 2,000 participants, including both international and Korean students, faculty and staff, and local residents.

During the event, student representatives from each participating country will perform traditional songs and dances. There will also be a variety of hands-on experiences, such as preparing and sharing authentic dishes from each country on site with visitors. For local residents and Korean students who rarely have opportunities to experience foreign cultures, this is expected to be a meaningful time to directly experience and better understand cultures from around the world.

Since 2015, Busan National University has organized this event to promote cultural exchange between international and Korean students, and to strengthen global sensitivity and communication skills. This year, the event has resumed after the pandemic, and both the scale and number of participants are expected to reach an all-time high.

Bae Yongkyun, Dean of the College of Economics and International Trade (Professor of International Studies) at Busan National University, stated, "This event will go beyond a simple exhibition or experience to become a true platform for exchange and mutual understanding." He added, "It will be a valuable opportunity for international students to feel pride and for Korean students to develop a global perspective."

Busan National University plans to continue expanding various global programs centered on international students in order to foster an international atmosphere on campus and to steadily promote cultural exchange activities in connection with the local community.
