Eunpyeong District Enhances Residential Safety with Smart Light Installation

This project aims to provide practical safety devices in the homes of senior citizens, based on the fact that 72.5% of fall accidents?which account for more than 60% of safety accidents among the elderly?occur at home.

Eunpyeong District has secured 50 million won in municipal funding and plans to sequentially install smart lights in 165 households at high risk of falls among those eligible for customized senior care services by December this year. These lights are equipped with voice detection sensors, allowing them to turn on and off automatically without the need for physical contact when moving to the bathroom or hallway at night. This is expected to greatly enhance both the mobility and safety of elderly residents.

The customized senior care service provides in-home care such as welfare checks, companionship, and daily life support for people aged 65 and older who need assistance with everyday activities. Currently, about 1,800 people in Eunpyeong District are receiving this support.

Kim Mikyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong District, stated, “We are expanding the care environment using advanced technologies such as IoT-based safety management and smart plugs so that the daily lives of our senior citizens can be safer and more comfortable,” and added, “I hope that the installation of these smart lights will be an opportunity to improve the quality of life for our elderly residents.”
