Yangsan City Presents Reality-Based Performance Featuring Participation of Isolated and Reclusive Youth

Special Performance at Regular Staff Meeting
Isolated and Reclusive Youth Linked to Practical Policies

Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province will present a reality-based performance featuring the direct participation of socially isolated and reclusive youth from the local area at the Grand Theater of the Yangsan Culture and Arts Center on May 7.

This stage is a special cultural event organized in conjunction with the May regular staff meeting. It is designed to broaden awareness of the issue of social isolation among youth and to deliver messages of field-oriented youth policies and empathy.

This performance originated from an idea by the Yangsan City Youth Policy Group and was developed into a stage production. Actual isolated and reclusive youth will participate, sharing their voices and stories directly on stage. The performance sheds light on various realities faced by young people, including irregular employment, housing insecurity, and family breakdown. It also delivers a message of hope and solidarity within a community living together.

At the end of 2024, the city enacted the 'Yangsan City Support Ordinance for Isolated and Reclusive Youth,' and, starting this year, has been actively implementing the 'Support Project for Isolated and Reclusive Youth' based on this ordinance.

The existing 'Hope High Pass' project is being expanded, and new initiatives are planned, such as special lectures aimed at eliminating prejudice and negative perceptions about social isolation, as well as the 'Healing Camping' program to help youth reconnect with society.

This performance, in particular, is closely aligned with these policy efforts, serving as an example of delivering the message of youth policy in a cultural language by having isolated youth share their stories directly on stage. Yangsan City expects that this event will broaden understanding and empathy among public officials and citizens regarding the issue of youth isolation and enhance the real-world impact of its policies.

An official from Yangsan City stated, "Youth issues are not simply about employment or housing, but are stories connected to the sense of existence in life. Real change happens when culture and policy work together. We will continue to provide practical opportunities for the lives of isolated youth in the future."
