Han Donghun: "Expanding Senior-Friendly Housing... Establishing Nationwide Medical-Care Control Towers"

Pledge for a "Vibrant 100-Year Life Without Worrying About Old Age"
Expansion of Care-Tech R&D... Creation of Integrated Senior Housing

Han Donghun, former leader of the People Power Party and a presidential preliminary candidate, pledged on May 1 to expand the supply of senior-friendly housing and to establish medical-care integration control towers in every city, county, and district nationwide to ensure a comfortable retirement for older adults.

On this day, Han announced his policy vision titled "A Korea Where You Can Enjoy a Vibrant 100-Year Life Without Worrying About Old Age," and presented a comprehensive policy for a super-aged society.

Han stated, "Seniors are the roots of our society and the main contributors to building today's Korea," adding, "I will create a country where all seniors can enjoy a comfortable and healthy retirement and lead vibrant lives."

He went on to promise an increase in the supply of senior-friendly housing. To achieve this, he plans to encourage the installation of senior convenience facilities and tailored care services in new apartment constructions and redevelopments, and to offer incentives such as increased floor area ratios and special provisions for commercial areas based on the proportion of such facilities.

He also plans to make existing homes more senior-friendly. Support for home renovations?such as removing level differences inside homes, installing safety handles, and applying non-slip flooring?will be expanded to all senior households.

By easing housing regulations, he aims to create "integrated multi-generational senior housing" within urban areas. The purpose is to foster communities where all generations can live together, rather than having areas where only seniors reside.

Additionally, to help seniors maintain healthy lives in their current communities, he will establish medical-care integration control towers in every city, county, and district nationwide, and support a smooth transition from hospital treatment to home care.

Furthermore, he will expand investment in care-tech research and development (R&D), and promote the inclusion of developed products?such as artificial intelligence (AI) companion robots, excretion-assist robots, and smart diapers?under health insurance and long-term care insurance for seniors.

Han also pledged to provide two annual home visits to seniors aged 75 and older to prevent social isolation, and to expand depression and cognitive function screenings to prevent dementia and mental health issues in advance.

He plans to introduce a "Job Doctor System" to provide comprehensive job checkups, career assessments, competency development, and career transition support for those in their 40s and 50s during their midlife transition stage.

Han emphasized, "I will ensure that a happy retirement for the senior generation leads to happiness and a sustainable future for young people and future generations."
