Collaboration with the Australian Embassy and AKBC to discuss educational and research cooperation
Exploring opportunities for joint degree programs and global talent development
The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority (Commissioner Park Sungho) held an online webinar on the theme of "Korea-Australia Transnational Education (TNE)" in collaboration with the Australian Embassy in Korea and the Australia-Korea Business Council (AKBC).

This webinar was organized to share the foundations and current status of educational and research cooperation between Korea and Australia, and to explore future avenues for mutual collaboration. The event was attended by approximately 70 participants, including Commissioner Park Sungho, officials from the Australian federal and state education departments, representatives from research institutions, and stakeholders from government and industry.
The main topics discussed included: ▲The TNE environment and opportunities in Korea ▲The environment for attracting educational and research institutions in BJFEZ ▲Joint degree programs between Korean and Australian universities, as well as broader discussions on the educational environments of both countries.
During the "Environment for Attracting Educational and Research Institutions in BJFEZ" session, the Authority introduced the current status of industrial and urban infrastructure in the Busan and Gyeongnam regions, as well as the growth of a global education and research city centered on the Myeongji District. In particular, recent policies by the Authority to develop sites for business facilities and to attract higher education and research institutions garnered significant interest from participants.
In his welcoming remarks, Commissioner Park Sungho stated, "The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone is a gateway connecting Asia and the world," and added, "I hope today's webinar will serve as a starting point for mutual understanding, enabling the educational and research capabilities of both countries to come together and grow."
Jeff Robinson, Australian Ambassador to Korea, remarked, "This webinar was a meaningful opportunity to confirm new possibilities for educational and research cooperation between Korea and Australia," and expressed hope that "follow-up discussions between Korean and Australian institutions will be actively pursued in the future."
The Authority plans to use this webinar as a stepping stone to expand online exchanges with major countries, including Australia, and to develop the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone into a hub for future industries and talent development in collaboration with global partners.
