Retail and Food Service Businesses with Annual Mobile Gift Certificate Transactions Less Than 36 Million Won
On April 30, the city of Gyeryong in South Chungcheong Province announced that it will implement a support policy starting May 1, offering an additional 3% cashback when making payments with the Gyeryong Sarang mobile gift certificate. This additional cashback will continue until a separate end date is announced.
The city explained that this policy aims to alleviate the business difficulties of small merchants. This is because mobile gift certificates have mainly been concentrated in large businesses or specific industries, resulting in small business owners who are truly struggling not receiving meaningful benefits.
The support targets retail and food service businesses whose annual mobile gift certificate transaction volume is less than 36 million won as of 2024. At these affiliated stores, customers can receive a total of 10% cashback when using the mobile gift certificate. Through this, consumers can enjoy greater benefits, while small business owners can expect increased sales.
In contrast, businesses such as Nonsan Gyeryong Nonghyup Local Food Center and others with annual transaction volumes of 36 million won or more, as well as medical and health institutions, private academies and educational institutions, gas stations, and charging stations, will continue to receive the existing 7% cashback rate.
The city plans to expand various administrative support measures to strengthen the competitiveness of local commercial districts through this project.
Mayor Lee Eungwoo stated, "I hope this cashback policy will not simply encourage consumption, but will also provide real help to small business owners who are struggling due to high inflation and the economic downturn."
