Prevention of Natural Disasters and Creation of an Eco-Friendly River Environment
On April 30, the city of Gyeryong in South Chungcheong Province announced that it has designated Dugyecheon Stream as a disaster risk improvement zone and will launch a full-scale river maintenance project with a total budget of 21.5 billion won.
This project is being promoted to protect the lives and property of residents from natural disasters such as heavy rainfall, and to create a safe and eco-friendly river environment.
Regarding the maintenance of Dugyecheon Stream, the Geumgang Basin Environmental Office is scheduled to complete the basic river plan this year, and the city plans to proceed with river maintenance based on this plan.
In addition, the city is simultaneously carrying out disaster prevention and environmental improvement projects for Nongsocheon Stream. A total budget of 600 million won is being invested in Nongsocheon Stream for dredging work to remove sediment and for bank protection construction.
Through these efforts, the city expects to secure river stability, improve water quality, and prevent flooding during the rainy season.
Furthermore, the city will promote the creation of the 'Five Senses Garden' for residents. This project aims to improve the living environment of local residents by providing opportunities for nature experiences and leisure activities.
Mayor Lee Eungwoo stated, "The river maintenance project focuses not only on environmental improvements but also on enhancing the safety and convenience of citizens," and added, "We will concentrate administrative efforts to create a sustainable, nature-friendly city."
