Enhancing Audit Appropriateness and Fairness
Four Experts from Various Fields to Serve as Autonomous Monitors
Busan Institute for the Promotion of Science and Technology Higher Education (BISTEP, President Kim Youngbu) appointed four new honorary resident auditors for the 3rd term and held the first meeting on April 28, 2025, in an effort to realize transparent and open audit administration.
Since 2019, BISTEP has operated the "Honorary Resident Auditor" system, which enables citizens to directly participate in order to enhance the transparency and accountability of public institution operations.
This citizen participation system is designed to reflect the diverse voices of the local community in administrative audits, eliminate audit blind spots, and establish a culture of integrity within the organization.
The four newly appointed 3rd term honorary resident auditors are: Kim Hyejin, President of Busan YWCA; Seok Byungsoo, Director of the Busan Labor Rights Center; Song Hyemi, labor attorney at Hyunseung; and Yeom Yoonho, Professor of Public Audit at Pusan National University.
They are expected to provide advice from the residents' perspective on internal audit activities and play a role in enhancing the transparency and public nature of the audits.
The 3rd term honorary resident auditors were appointed with consideration for the diversity of local residents from the outset, and the number of auditors has been increased from two to four. This expansion is intended to strengthen the role of residents as autonomous monitors, enabling them to contribute to improving transparency in the local community.
This meeting, the first official activity of the 3rd term honorary resident auditors, was held to establish a foundation for participation in ensuring the appropriateness and public nature of the institution's operations from the residents' perspective. During the meeting, the operation plan was presented, major audit-related issues were shared, and future activity directions were discussed. The participants proposed sharing audit-related matters and joint training through the formation of a council among Busan's funded institutions, emphasizing the need to strengthen the efficiency of audit operations.
BISTEP President Kim Youngbu stated, "We expect that cooperation with honorary resident auditors, who are external experts, will further strengthen the integrity and accountability of the institution," adding, "We will continue to establish various institutional foundations to become a transparent and trusted organization."
