Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Holds Overseas Construction $1 Trillion Milestone and 60th Anniversary Ceremony

Top 10 Projects Inducted into "Hall of Fame"... DL E&C's Canakkale Bridge Included

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on April 28 that it will hold the "Overseas Construction $1 Trillion Order and 60th Anniversary Ceremony" at the Construction Hall in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul on April 29. This ceremony has been organized to commemorate the achievements accumulated in the global market for more than half a century since winning the contract for the Pattani-Narathiwat Expressway in Thailand in 1965. Overseas construction surpassed the $1 trillion mark in orders and exports as of the end of last year, making it the third sector in Korea to do so, following semiconductors and automobiles.

For the first time, the "Overseas Construction Tower" will also be awarded at this event. The awards are divided into Gold, Silver, and Bronze Towers based on performance in securing overseas orders. Among large companies, Hyundai Engineering & Construction received the Gold Tower. Samsung C&T, Samsung Engineering & Architecture, GS Engineering & Construction, and Daewoo Engineering & Construction received the Silver Tower. DL E&C, Doosan Enerbility, SK Ecoplant, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, Korea Electric Power Corporation, and Ssangyong Engineering & Construction were awarded the Bronze Tower. Among mid-sized and small companies, HJ Shipbuilding & Construction received the Silver Tower, while LT Sambo, Dongbu Construction, Dohwa Engineering, Dong-A Geological Engineering, and Hanshin Engineering & Construction received the Bronze Tower.


In addition, the Ministry will separately recognize the "Top 10 Overseas Construction Projects" and present commemorative plaques. These projects are representative achievements that have highlighted Korean technological and construction capabilities on the world stage. The selected projects are: the Pattani-Narathiwat Expressway in Thailand (Hyundai Engineering & Construction); Jubail Industrial Port in Saudi Arabia (Hyundai Engineering & Construction); the Great Man-Made River in Libya (Dong-Ah Construction Industrial); the Iran South Pars Gas Field (DL E&C, GS Engineering & Construction, Hyundai Engineering & Construction); the UAE Fujairah Desalination Plant (Doosan Enerbility); the UAE Burj Khalifa (Samsung C&T); the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore (Ssangyong Engineering & Construction); the UAE Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (Korea Electric Power Corporation, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, Samsung C&T); Bismayah New City in Iraq (Hanwha); and the 1915 Canakkale Bridge in Turkiye (DL E&C, SK Ecoplant). These ten projects will be inducted into the "Overseas Construction Hall of Fame." In the second half of this year, a dedicated space will also be established at the National Land Development Exhibition Hall of the Ministry.


Meanwhile, a Presidential Citation will also be awarded during the ceremony. The Overseas Construction Association will receive the Presidential Citation on behalf of the industry. A total of 50 Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Citations will be presented to distinguished individuals and officials from government-affiliated organizations. In the lobby of the event venue, a special exhibition commemorating 60 years of overseas construction will be set up, allowing visitors to see the Hall of Fame, award-winning companies, and the Top 10 Projects at a glance.


Park Sangwoo, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "Securing $1 trillion in overseas orders is a monumental achievement that proves the global competitiveness of K-Construction," and added, "We will work together to usher in the era of $2 trillion by strengthening our competitiveness in new growth areas such as smart cities, urban development, and railways."
