Starting July 30, 2025, compensation payments to citizens who suffer losses due to legitimate police duties will be processed more quickly.
According to the Police Agency on April 27, an amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Police Officers' Performance of Duties Act has introduced a simplified procedure, allowing the compensation committee to be composed solely of internal members when the claimed amount is 1 million won or less.
Previously, there were no regulations limiting the processing period, but now the compensation decision period (60 days) and compensation payment period (30 days) have been clearly specified. Citizens can also choose how they wish to be notified of the results, such as by text message or email, and the required documents for claims have been simplified, further improving public convenience.
A Police Agency official stated, "We will continue to identify ways to improve the police compensation system and do our utmost to protect the rights and interests of the public."
