Lee Jae Myung, former leader and preliminary presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, announced on April 23 his vision to develop Jeju Island as both a testbed for new energy technologies and a global tourism hub.
On this day, Lee unveiled his regional pledges via social networking services (SNS). Through his pledges related to Jeju, he presented the vision of making Jeju a "carbon-neutral leading city by 2035."
Lee mentioned offshore wind power, solar energy, green hydrogen, and energy storage technologies, promising, "I will turn Jeju into a testbed for new energy technologies." Specifically, he outlined plans to establish a clean power grid using offshore wind and solar energy, complete a stable energy supply system through the development of green hydrogen and energy storage technologies, designate special zones for distributed energy, introduce real-time pricing and bidirectional charging, and utilize Jeju as a test site for new energy technologies.

Additionally, he pledged to strengthen digital infrastructure so that shared offices and other facilities would allow people to work while staying in Jeju. Lee stated, "We will increase the number of shared offices and accommodations that offer both convenience and efficiency, enabling travelers and business visitors to combine rest and work anytime, anywhere." He added, "We will make Jeju a place where not only those staying for a month, but also those staying longer, can balance work and leisure."
He also proposed supporting the establishment of sports training centers and multipurpose sports infrastructure that meet international standards, and presented directions for fostering the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry. In addition, he announced plans to transform Jeju's agriculture into a future-oriented industry by "expanding digital agriculture platforms and smart farm infrastructure, and actively supporting the establishment of smart agricultural processing centers."
By proposing measures such as upgrading Jeju National University Hospital to an advanced general hospital, Lee also stated, "We will complete a 'Jeju-style bio-health cluster' that integrates public healthcare, the bio industry, tourism, and wellness."
