Jiwon Park: "Eoranjin Port in Haenam Selected for CLEAN National Fishing Port Development Project"

A Total of 38.7 Billion Won to Be Invested
Large-Scale Development Including National Funding Set to Proceed

Eoranjin Port in Haenam-gun, South Jeolla Province, has been selected as a target site for the "2025 CLEAN National Fishing Port Development Project" organized by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, securing a total project budget of 38.7 billion won.

On April 22, Jiwon Park, Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker, announced, "Eoranjin Port in Haenam-gun has been selected as a target site for the CLEAN National Fishing Port Development Project," adding, "A total project budget of 38.7 billion won, including 15 billion won in national funding, will be invested."

Since being designated as a national fishing port in 1971, Eoranjin Port has drawn attention for its historical value and exceptional geographical conditions. It is also well known as the site where Admiral Yi Sun-sin fought his first naval battle after returning as Commander of the Three Provinces Naval Forces during the Imjin War. In addition, Eobuldo Island, located across from the port, has served as a natural fortress, functioning as a breakwater that blocks waves and swells.

In particular, thanks to the abundant aquatic resources in the Dadohae sea area of Haenam, a variety of fish species are caught throughout all four seasons, and the nearby seaweed farms further strengthen the region's fishing industry base.

Through this development project, 15 billion won is expected to be invested in the construction of a new fishermen's hall and the expansion of fishing and tourism facilities, 1.8 billion won in coastal area maintenance, and 200 million won in the remodeling of the fish market. In addition, comprehensive regional development is expected through linkage with the previously planned Eobuldo Island bridge construction project (21.7 billion won).

Park stated, "With Eoranjin Port being newly reborn as a national fishing port through its selection for this national development project, it will greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy and improving the quality of life for residents." He added, "Following last year's selection for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' rural space improvement project worth 6 billion won, Eoranjin Port has once again been selected for a national project. I hope this will serve as an opportunity for a new leap forward."
