Calls for Dissolution of the Constitutional Court at April 20 United Sunday Worship
Presidential Bid Announced at Gwanghwamun Rally the Previous Day
Pastor Jeon Gwanghoon of Sarang Jeil Church, who has declared his candidacy for the June 3 presidential election, asserted that "I am the only one who can solve these problems" and called for the dissolution of the Constitutional Court.
On April 20, during the 'National Sunday United Worship' held in front of Donghwa Duty Free Shop in Jongno-gu, Seoul, Pastor Jeon mentioned former President Yoon, stating, "Just like the 4·19 Revolution and the 5·16 Military Coup, I will confront this through a revolution and bring him back as the president of unification."
Pastor Jeon also said, "If former President Yoon's criminal trial ends in a not guilty verdict, the impeachment trial by the Constitutional Court must also be retried," adding, "That is why I declared my candidacy for president yesterday."
The day before, Pastor Jeon had announced at the 'Gwanghwamun National Rally' in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, that he would run for president as the candidate of the Free Unification Party. At the event, he emphasized, "The eight preliminary candidates from the People Power Party are telling people to stay away from Gwanghwamun," and declared, "I will make sure none of the eight from the People Power Party are elected." He also raised his voice, saying, "I will bring President Yoon Suk-yeol into the Free Unification Party."
Pastor Jeon stressed that he is the only one who can dissolve institutions such as the Constitutional Court. He said, "I declared my candidacy because I am the only one who can solve this issue," and added, "If not me, no one can dissolve the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, the National Election Commission, the Constitutional Court, or the National Assembly."
Meanwhile, Park Jie-won, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea, shared a post on his Facebook page regarding Pastor Jeon's presidential bid, stating, "Having come across the most delightful news of my life, I thought it would be too selfish to rejoice alone, so I am sharing it with the entire nation. Please give a round of applause. This is the best news among all good news." He then sarcastically added, "First member of the Free Unification Party, Yoon Suk-yeol! Yoon Again! Presidential candidate Jeon Gwanghoon."
