'The 17th Korea Middle and High School Federation National Yongmudo Competition' to Be Held
Youth martial artists from across the country are gathering in Gumi, Gyeongbuk. On April 18, Gumi City announced that it will host the 17th Korea Middle and High School Federation National Yongmudo Competition at the Seonsan Gymnasium on April 19.
Participants are taking a commemorative photo at the 16th Korea Middle and High School Federation National Yongmudo Competition in 2024, held in Gumi, Gyeongbuk.
This event is organized by the Gumi City Sports Council and co-hosted by the Korea Yongmudo Association and Kim Hyungsik, president of the Korea Middle and High School Yongmudo Federation.
Approximately 300 participants, including athletes and officials from all over the country, will compete in various categories such as individual matches (elementary, middle, and high school), team matches (middle and high school), and individual demonstration forms (elementary, middle, and high school), to determine the strongest competitors in each weight class.
Yongmudo is a comprehensive martial art created in 1995 by the faculty of the College of Martial Arts at Yongin University. It is a Korean martial art sport that combines the strengths of traditional martial arts such as Taekwondo, Hapkido, Judo, Ssireum, Boxing, and Kendo, and enhances practical applicability.
Winners in the high school weight class events at this competition will receive additional points for the rolling admissions process to the Department of Oriental Martial Arts at Yongin University's College of Martial Arts, providing substantial support for talented youth martial artists in their academic pursuits.
An official from the Korea Middle and High School Federation stated, "We hope that through this competition, young people will cultivate both character and mental strength through martial arts training, and that a healthy sports culture will take root."
Gumi City plans to use this event as an opportunity to strengthen its brand as a martial arts city and to further promote youth sports.
