63rd Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival: Tournament Draw Finalized, Final Preparations Underway

City and County Representatives Meeting Held at Gimcheon National Sports Center
Tournament Draw Conducted for 30 Events

Gimcheon City, Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 18th that it held the city and county representatives meeting for the 63rd Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival at the Gimcheon National Sports Center on the 17th.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Gyeongsangbuk-do Sports Promotion Division, the Gyeongsangbuk-do Sports Council, city and county sports councils within the province, and representatives from 30 sports organizations, totaling approximately 200 participants. They discussed plans for operating the festival, reviewed detailed matters, and conducted the tournament draw.


The meeting began with an opening ceremony and the national pledge, followed by welcoming remarks from the Deputy Mayor of Gimcheon City and the President of the Gimcheon City Sports Council. This was followed by a message from the Secretary General of the Provincial Sports Council, a report on the festival preparations, and a Q&A session.


In particular, the meeting focused on checking the preparation status to ensure the smooth progress of the festival, and discussed specific measures for the safe operation of the games.


The tournament draw, held from 2 p.m., determined the groupings for 18 of the 30 tournament events. The draw was conducted separately for city and county divisions, and additional points were awarded to the six cities and counties with the highest scores in the previous year’s National Sports Festival, including Gimcheon City (4.1 points), Yecheon County (2.8 points), and Pohang City (2.3 points).


Gimcheon City, in particular, received the highest number of additional points, leading to expectations that it is highly likely to achieve a strong overall result in this year’s festival.


Choi Soongo, Deputy Mayor of Gimcheon City, stated, "Through this meeting, we are accelerating the final preparations for the successful hosting of the 63rd Provincial Sports Festival. We will create an inspiring sports festival where all provincial residents can participate, enjoy, and share moments of joy together."


Meanwhile, the 63rd Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival, under the slogan "A New Era for Gyeongbuk Running Together in Happy City Gimcheon," is scheduled to be held for four days from May 9 to May 12 at the Gimcheon Sports Complex and surrounding areas.
