The Gongju City Council in Chungnam Province (Chairperson Lim Dalhee) adopted a resolution on April 18 during the second plenary session of its 258th extraordinary meeting, urging the relocation of the Sangseong-dong depot for the Gongju-Sejong BRT project.
According to the city council, the Metropolitan Transportation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced the implementation plan for the Sejong-Gongju BRT construction project on August 28, 2024, and is currently pushing forward with construction, aiming for completion in the first half of 2026.
The city council argued that the planned depot site, located at 201-1 Geumseong-dong, is adjacent to Gongsanseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and therefore relocation is necessary to preserve its historical value.
The resolution includes the following points: a comprehensive review and development of alternatives for the depot adjacent to Gongsanseong Fortress; strengthening communication with local residents; and the rational selection of the depot site, taking into account the second phase of the BRT project.
