Maximum Monthly Payment of 40,000 Won
Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju announced on the 18th that it will implement a 'Waste Paper Price Compensation Project' to help stabilize the livelihoods of elderly waste paper collectors.
This project operates by compensating the price difference up to 20 won per kilogram if the waste paper price falls below 80 won per kilogram. Each individual can receive support for up to 70kg per day and up to 40,000 won per month.
Eligible applicants are residents of Gwangsan-gu who collect waste paper with handcarts and are either seniors aged 65 or older or persons with disabilities as defined by the 'Act on Welfare of Persons with Disabilities.' Applicants must submit sales receipts or weight confirmation documents from junk shops to the local administrative welfare center by the 10th of each month. The subsidy will be paid on the 25th of each month.
Gwangsan-gu stated that this project was prepared to alleviate the economic difficulties of the elderly and to create a respectful working environment. For more details, contact the Cleaning Administration Division of Gwangsan-gu.
A Gwangsan-gu official said, "We hope this will provide practical help to elderly waste paper collectors," and added, "We will continue our efforts to create a safer and more respectful environment."
