Applications Accepted from July 1 to August 31
Hanil Cement announced on the 18th that the Udeok Foundation is hosting the '4th Udeok Future Architect Award' competition.
The competition is open to university and graduate school students nationwide, including those on leave of absence, who can apply individually or in teams of up to three members. The theme is based on the book "Concrete and Culture" written by Adrian Forty, a professor of architecture at the London College of Communication. Participants are required to read the book and submit architectural designs reflecting the meaning and value of cement and concrete within the flow of architectural and urban history. The Udeok Foundation will provide one copy of the book per team.
Participants must submit design files including perspective and floor plans, a video explaining their work within one minute, and an application form through the Udeok Foundation website. The foundation will conduct preliminary judging in September based on the submitted materials and select nine teams to advance to the finals.
In the finals held in November, participants will present their projects to the judges as teams. They must prepare presentation materials within 10 minutes and architectural models. Only the teams advancing to the finals will receive 1 million KRW per team to support model production costs.
The winners will be announced on the day of the onsite judging. The grand prize winner will receive 10 million KRW, two teams will receive 6 million KRW each for the excellence award, three teams will receive 4 million KRW each for the merit award, and three teams will receive 2 million KRW each for the encouragement award. The application period is from July 1 to August 31.
Meanwhile, the Udeok Foundation was established in 1983 by Udeok Heo Chaekyung, the founder of Hanil Cement, with the purpose of nurturing true workers who will carry the nation's future. Currently, Honorary Chairman Heo Jeongseop serves as chairman, supported by Heo Giho, chairman of Hanil Holdings. Over approximately 40 years since its establishment, the foundation has supported 157 schools with over 6,000 students, 40 research institutions, and 40 public interest organizations with a total of 43 billion KRW.
