The legal team of former President Yoon Seok-yeol postponed the founding press conference of a new party less than half a day after announcing plans to establish it.
On the 17th, lawyers Kim Gye-ri and Bae Ui-cheol had announced that they would hold a press conference on the 18th in Yeouido, Seoul, to launch the new party "Yoon Again," but canceled the schedule after about four hours.
They stated, "In the early presidential election phase, the proposal of a new party could cause various misunderstandings regarding the president's intentions, will, or influence, so we judged that it was not appropriate to formalize this through a press conference," adding, "We faced intense pressure from the People Power Party."
They also reported that former President Yoon discouraged the press conference, saying, "Now is the time to unite our strength." Regarding the background of the attempt to establish the new party, they said, "It was an effort to unite the voices of the 2030 generation and the free camp, which the People Power Party cannot accommodate, to achieve regime re-creation and unification," and added, "Following the president's words, we will postpone the press conference for now."
Lawyer Seok Dong-hyun of the impeachment trial legal team drew a clear line, stating, "Former President Yoon is not involved or participating at all," and "The legal work of the president's lawyers is completely unrelated to political parties."
Regarding the movement to establish the new party, he argued, "It should be seen as a desperate gesture by the younger generation angered by the impeachment to do something."
Meanwhile, "Yoon Again" is a political slogan that emerged ahead of the 21st presidential election of the Republic of Korea, carrying the meaning of supporters of former President Yoon Seok-yeol, who was removed from office through impeachment, urging his re-candidacy and return.
