Preparations Underway for the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety has prepared the first supplementary budget of the year amounting to 678.6 billion KRW. It is primarily composed of disaster response funds to recover from large-scale wildfire damage.
On the 18th, the Ministry announced that the supplementary budget, including 660 billion KRW for disaster response, 17.7 billion KRW for maintenance of disaster-prone areas, and 900 million KRW for government events such as national holidays, passed the Cabinet meeting on the same day and is scheduled to be submitted to the National Assembly on the 22nd.
The supplementary budget includes essential funds to address urgent issues such as wildfire damage recovery, prevention of landslides on steep slopes, and preparation for the presidential inauguration ceremony.
In particular, disaster response funds for wildfire damage recovery have been significantly increased to 1.02 trillion KRW from the previous budget of 360 billion KRW. The additionally secured budget will support wildfire-related housing damage recovery and provision of living stabilization subsidies.
Furthermore, a project to maintain landslide risk areas in wildfire-affected regions will be promoted to prevent secondary damage. Budget has also been allocated to ensure smooth preparation for the presidential inauguration ceremony according to Article 69 of the Constitution following the June 3 presidential election.
Ko Gi-dong, Acting Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, stated, "We hope this will greatly help residents whose livelihoods and recovery have been severely affected by the wildfire to return to normal life as soon as possible," and added, "We will do our best to ensure the swift passage of this supplementary budget."
