The 'Special Investigation Act on Treason' and the 'Special Investigation Act on Myeong Tae-gyun' were finally rejected in the National Assembly plenary session re-vote on the 17th.
On that day, the National Assembly held a plenary session to vote on bills for which the veto power had been exercised. The Special Investigation Act on Treason was rejected with 197 votes in favor and 102 against out of 299 votes cast, and the Special Investigation Act on Myeong Tae-gyun was rejected with 197 votes in favor, 98 against, and 4 invalid votes out of 299 votes cast.
Bills on which veto power has been exercised require approval by two-thirds or more of the total members of the National Assembly to pass. Bills rejected in the re-vote are automatically discarded.

Previously, the Special Investigation Act on Treason was passed on December 12 last year but was finally rejected after the veto was exercised by Choi Sang-mok, Deputy Prime Minister for Economy and Minister of Strategy and Finance (then Acting President), on January 8 this year. Afterwards, the Democratic Party and others reintroduced the Special Investigation Act on Treason after partially accepting the opinions of the People Power Party, but Acting President Choi exercised the veto again. It was brought back to the plenary session but followed the process of being discarded.
The Special Investigation Act on Myeong Tae-gyun targets investigations into allegations of manipulation of public opinion polls and interference in candidate nominations related to Mr. Myeong during the recent presidential and local elections. The Special Investigation Act on Myeong Tae-gyun was also returned to the National Assembly after Acting President Choi exercised the veto on the 14th of last month.
